A San Francisco city employee may have been the suspect in a weekend stabbing that occurred in the predawn hours in the Cathedral Hill neighborhood, but the city has not yet confirmed this.
The stabbing happened on the 800 block of Franklin Street around 1:30 am on Saturday, as the Chronicle reports via the SFPD. That block is lined primarily with residential buildings, and is one block north of Opera Plaza.
Police were called to the scene of a stabbing, and they found one man suffering from a non-life-threatening laceration wound.
The SFPD said they believe that the suspect was 45-year-old Walter Alberto Monge, and that Monge knew the victim, though the nature of their relationship is not yet clear.
Arriving officers reportedly went to Monge's nearby apartment, where he allegedly barricaded himself inside. He was later arrested with the help of the SFPD's hostage and crisis negotiation team.
Monge was out of custody as of Tuesday, but jail records show he had been booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, battery with serious bodily injury, and mayhem, among other charges.
The Chronicle connects the dots t0 find that a Walter Monge who is the same age works as a case manager and neighborhood business coordinator for the Office of Small Business at the City Hall. A spokesperson for the Office of Economic and Workforce Development, which oversees the Office of Small Business, would neither confirm nor deny this, the Chronicle said, only saying they were "monitoring the situation."
A graduate of SF State, Monge has reportedly been employed by the city for four years.
