The Democrats are attacking the Republican Florida Senator for refusing to have any debates in the statewide race.
The Florida Democratic Party said Republican Senator Ashley Moody is refusing to take the stage and speak directly to Florida voters in a televised debate with Democratic Senate candidate Angie Nixon.
“Unelected Ashley Moody remains a question mark for Florida voters, and that’s exactly how she likes it,” Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried stated. “She was appointed to the Senate by Ron DeSantis and has since acted as a rubber-stamp for Donald Trump, voting with him every single time. She has no agenda of her own, and now she’s refusing to debate Angie Nixon rather than explain where she stands.”
The Democrats are saying that Senator Moody is worried about being exposed in a major political scandal.
“What we do know about Ashley Moody is that she signed off on diverting $10 million of taxpayer money meant for sick children to Republican slush funds as Florida’s Attorney General,” FDP Chair Nikki Fried continued. “And instead of answering questions about her role, she’s avoided reporters and refused to explain herself.”
The Democrat running against the Republican Senator is also being very direct on the debate issue.
“I need you all to post about how Absent Ashley Moody is too scared to debate me because she stole $10 million from sick kids and their Medicaid program. Every single day until election day,” Angie Nixon posted. In another post, the Democratic candidate said “A.I. Ashley Moody is too scared to debate me because she took millions from data center billionaires and stole $10m from sick kids.”
Republicans including Senator Moody have said they do not want to give Nixon a platform to promote socialist issues, as Nixon joined the Democratic Socialists of America.
The Democrats are arguing that Florida voters deserve answers from both candidates.
“Rep. Angie Nixon has spent her career showing up and listening to the people she represents, not hiding from them,” FDP Chair Nikki Fried stated. “If Ashley Moody wants to keep this seat, she needs to earn it. We call on her to get out from behind her scripted talking points, get on the stage, and debate Angie Nixon.”
