Two children were killed and a man was hospitalized after a shooting in Pico-Union on Sunday afternoon, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Officers were called to the area near Venice Boulevard and S. Catalina Street at around 12:50 p.m. for reports of a shooting, and upon arrival, they found three people suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police said Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics took all three to nearby hospitals in unknown condition. They believe that one of the people shot two others and then himself.

Police later said two of the victims, a 4-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl, were pronounced dead at the hospital. The third person, a 30-year-old man who police believe was the alleged gunman, remained hospitalized in unknown condition as of 5:15 p.m.

LAPD officials did not know if the incident was connected to domestic violence and did not say if the suspect and victims were related.

Video from the scene showed LAPD officers blocking off the area where the shooting occurred, which appeared to have been on or near a Metro bus. Police were seen speaking with a person who appeared to be the bus driver during their investigation.

In response to a request for comment on the incident, a Metro spokesperson told CBS LA that police requested footage from the bus because it was passing through the area at the time and may have captured video evidence.

Police said there were no outstanding suspects as they continued investigating the motive.
